Room to Read

We want to contribute to the communities where our goods are produced and this is why we’ve chosen to support Room to Read 2010 and beyond. Room to Read was established in the US in 2000 by former Microsoft executive John Wood. Their goal is to provide 10 million children with the lifelong gift of education. The charity partners with local communities to build schools and libraries in the developing world. When you consider that 115 million children of primary school age aren't enrolled in school you can see why their work is so important.

We will be donating 2p from every uniform garment sold to Room to Read - a charity focused on building schools, libraries and educational infrastructure throughout the developing world. We have already donated in excess of £30,000 and our donations will enable Room to Read to establish many libraries in India and Vietnam.

Nick Buckland, joint Managing Director at Price & Buckland explains why the company has decided to back the charity: “When we discovered the Room to Read charity and looked at the educational work it did in the developing world, particularly in Vietnam and India where we have suppliers, we wanted to get involved and give something back to those countries.

“I’ve visited the factories in Asia many times and although the staff have a good working environment and support, the local communities and the children still need educational assistance and this is where Room to Read steps in.”
