Nottingham schoolwear supplier Price & Buckland is extending its charitable work and will be donating 2p from every uniform garment sold to Room to Read – a charity focused on building schools, libraries and educational infrastructure throughout the developing world.
Price & Buckland hopes to donate more than £15,000 this year to Room to Read, which was established in the US in 2000 by former Microsoft executive John Wood. Price & Buckland’s donations will enable Room to Read to establish more than seven libraries in India and Vietnam.
Nick Buckland, joint managing director at Price & Buckland explains why the company has decided to back the charity: “When we discovered the Room to Read charity and looked at the educational work it did in the developing world, particularly in Vietnam and India where we have suppliers, we wanted to get involved and give something back to those countries.”
The company is very active in supporting education around the world. Last year alone, it raised over £1,000 for CARE International by participating in the Care Challenge. Is also supported the British Airways’ Operation Simba initiative by partnering with John Cabot Academy in Bristol to donate hundreds of school uniforms to children in Africa.

Bristol School the John Cabot Academy has teamed up with British Airways and school uniform supplier Price and Buckland to help out schools in Africa. The School which recently changed it’s uniform having acquired Academy status, will donate 250 new Price & Buckland uniform garments to three schools – one in Kenya and two in South Africa.
British Airways regularly appeals for clothing, books and toys to be delivered directly to children’s homes and orphanages in East Africa through its Operation Simba programme, while John Cabot has been working with schools in Africa for over six years and has partnerships with two schools in South Africa and one in The Gambia.
Nick Jones, the Academy’s headteacher, said: “We knew donating the uniforms to schools in Africa would really make a difference because from dealing with these schools over the years, it is unheard of for them to receive new garments, so with the help of British Airways the uniforms will be delivered in the coming weeks.”

A GENEROUS Hucknall company are helping to donate uniforms to three schools in Africa.
Price & Buckland, of Benneworth Close, off Watnall Road, have teamed up with the John Cabot Academy in Bristol and British Airways (BA) to send 250 uniforms to one school in Kenya and two in South Africa.
The academy have been working with schools in Africa for more than six years, providing IT equipment, teacher training and sewing machines.
And thanks to the link up with Price & Buckland, they are able to continue their good work.
Nick Jones, head teacher at John Cabot, said: “When we decided to change our uniform at the start of the school year, we wanted to make sure the leftover stock didn’t go to waste.
“Price & Buckland provide us with a stock-holding service. They too have been involved in initiatives in Africa in the past and so encouraged us to make the most out of our remaining uniforms.
“We knew that donating the uniforms to schools in Africa would really make a difference because from dealing with these schools over the years, it is unheard of for them to receive new garments.
“So with the help of BA, the uniforms will be delivered in the coming weeks.”
The Kenyan school will receive their uniforms as part of BA”s Operation Simba initiative – an annual appeal for clothing, books and toys that are delivered to children’s homes and orphanages in East Africa.
Price & Buckland, who were established in 1959, supply schoolwear to more than 3,000 schools in the UK and support several educational and charitable projects in developing countries.
